What's New in the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500?

One of the key highlights of the changes in the new 2018 Silverado 1500 is the eAssist powertrain available on crew cab setups of the LT or LTZ trims. This is a minor hybrid engine setup that pairs with the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, helping you earn as much fuel efficiency as possible through a series of stop / start technology, regenerative braking, active aero shutters and other features that work together to make the most out of every mile.

Also new to the fold is a tire-pressure monitoring system that lets you know when your tires are filled at the right level. Additionally, a rearview camera now comes standard in every version of the Silverado 1500.

2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 Engine Options and Performance

The Silverado 1500 starts off with a standard V-6, producing 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. That engine may feel a tad sluggish for your tastes, so we recommend choosing a setup with the 5.3-liter V-8, which can be made more efficient with the eAssist function on both the 2WD and 4WD setups. That engine produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.

At the top of the line, you'll have a 6.2-liter V-8 available, producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, though that engine is hardly a fuel sipper. When properly setup and by adding the available NHT max towing package, you'll be able to tow up to 12,500 pounds in your new Silverado 1500.

The New 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 Offers High-End Performance-Enhancing Features

A range of intelligent tech features boost your performance and towing abilities in your new Silverado 1500. In tow / haul mode, you'll reduce shift cycling when carrying heavy loads or driving on steep grades. The available StabiliTrak with Trailer Sway Control works when you're carrying something hitched onto the back, and Hill Start Assist helps out on steep slopes. A range of camera systems help you out as well when it comes to backing up with a trailer, and just seeing around your truck in tight spaces, while integrated trailer brake controller and auto grade braking help you slow down and stop in all kinds of situation.
